Met with the client today. Big open question: Lightspeed vs Shopify. The deciding factor right now is the deposit feature for custom furniture orders. They need to collect staged payments (e.g., 25/25/50 on a $6K couch).

What we found: - Lightspeed can't do staged deposits. Their deposit system is single-shot with a 14-day expiry. No way to set up a milestone payment schedule. Would require building something completely custom (Stripe + custom tracker on Vercel). - Shopify handles this. Native partial payments on draft orders since 2024, plus apps like Downpay ($49/mo) for automated scheduling and a customer portal.

What we sent the client: - Email overview explaining Lightspeed's limitation and Shopify's capabilities, with source links. Draft saved to ~/Desktop/hearts-fire-deposit-update.md.

Quote adjustment if they go Shopify: - Adding 10 hours for Shopify onboarding/setup support (tax, shipping, email, product migration, deposit app config, dropshipping, etc.). Full checklist in SHOPIFY-SETUP.md. - Tech stack simplifies — no more Vercel/React needed. Shopify's built-in system handles everything. - The original ECOM-PLAN.md (Lightspeed eCom/Ecwid widget on Vercel) would be superseded.

Status: Waiting on client to decide Lightspeed vs Shopify. Deposit capability is the key factor.
